Last week was our 100th day of school. We used the number 100 in many ways including counting and bringing in 100 items to display for the school. Enjoy our collections...
During November and December, our class explored motion by first using pre-made marble ramps and then building some of our own ramps. The students learned how to make the balls or marbles change direction, go uphill, jump the ramp, do a loop-to-loop and transfer energy to another marble. They had lots of fun while developing some very important science, language and teamwork skills. Recently our class has had access to some very cool Blue Bots floor robots! The bots are a exciting, child-friendly way for our students to experience programming via the onboard keys. We will be exploring the many ways that we can use these bots to learn coding along with math and literacy skills! Check out these pictures... Well, you are finally in first grade! We are going to have lots of fun this year. I would like to know what you would like to learn this year. What do you like to learn about? What interests do you have? Tell me about yourself in the comment spot. Please use just your initials and have an adult help you! I am looking forward to getting to know you and what you like to do...
Mrs. Roush (my intials would be M.R.) Hello and welcome to our class. I am so excited for this school year to begin! I
look forward to meeting you all at the "Meet the Teacher" on Friday, August 14th at 8:00-8:30 am. Please bring your supplies that day if you can (it helps us get organized). Don't worry about it if you forget! I am looking forward to a great year. To facilitate future parent communication, I would like parents to email me at ([email protected]) so I have your email address for any updates and other communication. I will see you all very soon! Sincerely, Mrs. Roush In our first grade classrooms, we are traveling around the world this year, learning about many different cultures, languages, customs, and holidays. As one part of this unit, we discuss each student’s “cultural heritage” or "cultural background" and what that means. The students discuss their cultural background with their family and then each student creates a visual project that shows his/her heritage. Some children decorate a shoe box and add items from their heritage (called “My Heritage Box”). Other students create a poster or a book. We share the projects with our classmates. During this sharing, the class is exposed to many aspects of the numerous cultures presented including foods, holidays/celebrations, languages and customs. It is a great way to learn about many different cultures! We had our Cultural Heritage Celebration last week. The students had a great time sharing their personal heritage projects with adults from around the school, parents and grandparents. They did an excellent job explaining the details of their heritage to our visitors! Our class, along with Mrs. LaValle's class, went outside to explore the temperature of the soil and water in different areas on the hill. We compared the temperatures of the soil and water in the sun to those in the shade. We will be using our conclusions to help guide us in the kind of grass to plant on the hill when the fourth grade is finished digging the trench, layering gravel, and then covering it with soil. |
